A message from Jon

Thank you for your interest in these senior posts — there’s no doubt that this is a really exciting time to join Croydon Council. In showing your interest in these roles you should be aware that this post will not just be contributing to the Council’s drive to excellence but to our vision of creating a new city.

Our greatest ambition is to become the third city in London. We are Europe’s largest town in a prime position in the South East and recognised as an enterprising Borough with great prospects for development. Led by the renowned architect Will Alsop, Croydon has set out a plan for the future that creates not just a landmark destination in the south of London but a city in its own right.

This is a time of change for the council and the borough as a whole. Change brings opportunities as well as challenges and I would encourage you to apply if you’re excited by the challenge.

As a council currently rated ‘good’ by the Audit Commission, we are of course proud of our achievements. However, good needs to transform into excellent. To do this, I am working with the Leader of the Council in setting out Croydon’s vision for success; working with our partners and a strong voluntary sector in improving Croydon as a place to live, work and visit.

These are new types of roles across the Council. With clear responsibilities for your area of expertise, you are also applying to become a leader within the organisation with the ability to drive performance across departmental and functional boundaries.

We have a challenge in improving our performance. You should be highly motivated and want to drive performance across all of our services. Within this remit, improving customer satisfaction and perception is particularly important across the range of services delivered to the community.

The council will shortly undergo some significant changes both structurally and culturally. In applying for this role, I expect to see individuals that can deliver change effectively, influence people and show true leadership within the department, the council and the wider community.

Chief among your responsibilities will be delivering innovative and successful approaches to delivering the wide range of services the Council provides. These are stretching roles, and we hope that you will find them challenging and interesting.
